Well, it means that you can be anywhere in the world and request a specific
image to be done exactly to your description, recipe, etc. You simply contact
me, we discuss what actually needs to be done, format,
materials, cost. When image is photographed and approved you get it in the agreed
format.

All work is done here. Most ingredients are available and most dishes can
be prepared any time of year, in any style.

This is my first cookbook, what do I need to know?
First, you need to know if your publisher
is covering photography or not. If he is, chances are they will have a format,
budget, and number of images required already in mind. You can recommend your
choice of photographer, they will do the rest.
If you are self publishing or covering your own photography, you need to
have an idea of how many images you will need for full pages or spreads, and if you
will need additional images for fill.
Do I need a stylist?
If you are a chef and want to show your own
style of presentation, then you are your own stylist. I may give you a few
guidelines on plating for the camera. If you are used to simpler presentation
but would like to show your food in a more elaborate way, then a stylist would
be a good addition to the team.
Do you have a stylist?
I work with a few chefs who are also
very good stylists and very experienced with working for the camera. I can
easily find the right person for the job.
Where does the photoshoot take place?
It depends.., if you own a restaurant or any other
place where you normally prepare food, it may be the best to do the photography
there, in a familiar place where everything is at hand. If you choose to use
our stylist he has his own facility.
What if I am in another province or country?
Travel and accommodation arrangements
can be made. I am open to working out details to stay within the budget.

Who owns the images?
It is an industry standard that the photographer
owns the images, but it is clear that you get all the rights necessary to publish
and promote your book.
What rights do I have?
You have non-exclusive, one time publishing rights and
the right to reproduce images for the purposes of promotion of the book.
Who pays for photography, publisher or I?
It is not uncommon that the publisher
takes care of the whole process, however, in the case of books where a large number
of images is involved, the cost may be shared or completely up to the writer
to cover. There are no hard and fast rules, negotiate.
How long does it take?
On average high quality film images can be produced at a rate of 6-8 per
day.
